Breaking Bad and The Picture of Dorian Gray Connection?????

Image
In the Picture of Dorian Gray, after Dorian murders Basil with a knife, He asks his scientist friend to help him dispose of the corpse. Here Dorian feels no remorse, no pity. He even blackmails Campbell into dissolving the body of Basil for him.  This really reminded me of the scene in Breaking Bad where they needed to dissolve a body in order to cover up evidence. I think there is a connection to be made between Breaking Bad and the Picture of Dorian Gray with characters of Walter White and Dorian Gray.  While these are drastically different situations, they both hinge on the fact that both characters need to dissolve these bodies to cover up their crimes.  There is somewhat of a connection between Dorian Gray and Walter White throughout both of their arcs. They both become corrupted by something that was good. Walter White originally committed al of his crimes in the name of his family. He sold meth so he could leave money for his wife and son before he died of lu...

SHOULD WE STOP CONSUMING/APPRECIATING ALL ART?

Image
In class, we discussed whether it is correct to consume art created by immoral people. While the clear answer is to say that we should not support these immoral people by consuming their art, it is nearly impossible.  For example, any movie that you watch has had tens of thousands of people working on it. From the Directors, casts members, producers, casting directors, cinematographers, props, makeup, ADs, sound, Foley, VFX team, assistants, to the distributors, production company, the camera companies, sets, construction, and theaters. Any feature length movie has almost hundreds of thousands of people profiting from it. There is almost no way that not a single person profiting from a film has done immoral acts. By the law of large numbers, watching any feature length movie contributes in some way to somebody that has done immoral acts. This is even more apparent in shows, as they actually switch crews sometimes between episodes and has more distributors to different channel...

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I do not like English. I really do not. I’ve always struggled with reading comprehension. In elementary school, they put me in an ESL class because my reading was so poor. My reading was always my lowest grade on the ACT and SATs, and I never got an A in English until the pandemic. But despite all of my hardships with English, this 11 AP class has changed my perspective on the subject. I feel like I have improved greatly as a writer and I am able to express myself better. I have also learned a great deal about society and different philosophies. The readings we do for homework have really enriched my thinking and the way I view the world.  To Mrs. Valentino, you have my deepest gratitude as my teacher. For making me a better reader and writer. Those torturous essays made me better at thinking on the fly and looking deeper into the readings. I learned a lot about myself and English in this class and that is thanks to you. To all the articles we read which enriched my thinking and br...
