MARRIAGE PROBLEM IN JAPAN AND WHY WE SHOULD CARE

Image
This week we talked about the absurdity of marriage in Las Vegas. Now today I will talk about some marriage statistics and its economic effects in Japan and why we are totally doomed(jk).  For one, marriage is on a decline.   The number of adults ages 25 to 54 who are currently married fell from 67% in 1990 to 53 % in 2019. But despite contrary belief, Divorce rate has actually been going down(only slightly though). In 1981, around 53% of marriages ended in divorce, but in 2021 that percentage is only 45%(wow improvement guys). But that's probably because less people are getting married. The overall data is pretty concerning considering there’s places like Las Vegas which take all the intimacy out of marriage.  Now, you might be wondering. Why is a 17 year old boy writing about marriage statistics? Because there are economic ramifications for this. HOLD ON LET ME EXPLAIN! HEAR ME OUT GUYS! One thing that the media warned us about 50 years ago was overpopulat...

SCHOOL IS WEIRD

Image
In class, we read about the mysterious Nacirema. It displayed the absurdity that this “foreign civilization” went about their daily lives, but in reality it was just to point out the absurd things that we do in American Society. I noticed that many people complained about school in their creative writing. After this horrible week of tests, competitions, more tests, and stress, I will now take this chance to complain about school as well and why I think it is weird the way we do it. I think the concept of school is kind of weird. You have to go to a place to learn topics that will ultimately have no use or application to your real life. And sure you should be literate and know basic math, but do you really need to know the approximate series of the function e^x or know how to get the sophistication point on an essay? No. People will just take hard classes just for the sake of taking hard classes or to make it look good on their college apps. People do not even learn the material to lear...

CHINESE AMERICAN NAMES

Image
In class we read about somebody who had a name that was hard to pronounce. This left her distant from others. She was discriminated against because her name was hard to pronounce.  Though I was also a person of color, I really did not find myself relating to Firoozeh. This led me to think about my name. Why do I have an American name? Then I realized most Chinese Americans have more “American” names and it's usually their legal name. Like I do have a Chinese name, but that's not my legal name or the name on the attendance list at school. (This is a moment where I would go upstairs and ask my mom why I have an American name, but she’s not here right now so the internet and my own thinking will have to do for now) There are so many Chinese Americans that I know that have certain names that I associate the name with a Chinese person. For example, the name Andrew is so common among Chinese Americans. When I hear the name Andrew, the image of Asian American boy pops up in my hea...
